Chang joins An in share of first-round lead at Maekyung event

Korean golfer Heemin Chang surged into a share of the opening-round lead at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open this morning, carding a five-under-par 66 after making birdie on his final hole. Due to yesterday’s inclement weather at Namseoul Country Club, Chang was among 72 players unable to complete their rounds, but he returned today and quickly regained his momentum, joining fellow Korean Seonghyeon An at the top of the leaderboard in the tournament’s 44th edition.

Wooyoung Cho of Korea, Thailand’s David Boriboonsub, and Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent also wrapped up their first rounds early today, all posting 67s to sit alongside Korea’s Jaewoong Eom in a tie for third place.

Fifteen-year-old amateur Seonghyeon An was the surprise pacesetter on day one, as a four-hour lightning delay left a backlog of unfinished rounds. The second round is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. local time, with improved weather and sunny skies expected to replace the previous day’s rain and overcast conditions.
