Grateful players donate to Japan High School Golf Association

Competing in tournament golf in Japan always leaves a lasting impression, and at the recent International Series Japan presented by Moutai, players chose to celebrate this by giving back to the local community.

Many participants, including Australian champion Lucas Herbert, generously donated golf gear to the Japan High School and Junior High School Golf Association, a key supporter of grassroots golf in the country.

Throughout the event, items such as golf balls, hats, and gloves were presented to the association, ensuring that young golfers in Japan have access to quality equipment.

These donations contributed to a memorable week at Caledonian Golf Club, marking the International Series’ debut in Japan.

Reflecting on his victory, Herbert shared that his first experience playing in Japan was as an amateur early in his career, describing the country as a special place. He also praised the exceptional food and overall experience during the tournament.

Among the top performers was Yuta Sugiura, a promising Japanese golfer and two-time Japan Golf Tour winner, who tied for second place and was the highest-ranked local player.

At just 23 years old, Sugiura serves as a role model for aspiring golfers in Japan, including those supported by the Japan High School Golf Association.

Hisahiko Inoue, Chairman of the Japan High School and Junior High School Golf Association, expressed gratitude for the donations, highlighting how these gifts motivate young golfers to advance and emulate players like Sugiura. He emphasized the ongoing popularity of golf in Japan and their commitment to fostering its growth.

The tournament also showcased Japan’s depth of talent, with five Japanese players finishing in the top 10, including Jinichiro Kozuma, who competes on the LIV Golf League.
